2014 Room Reno

A couple of photos from the room reno's we did in January. These are just candid shots, the 'good' pix will be on the website in a few weeks.

The Casco Bay Room got a new king bed and 2 new chairs for reading. We added some wall art we had in our space to make it a 'Maine Cottage' look.

In the Crow's Nest we stripped the wallpaper and painted the room a sunshine-y yellow. There are new drapes at the window and a second chair has been added. (I'm sitting on it to take the photo!) Still trying to decide if I want to paint the dresser. The picture that is propped on the table is now hung up on the short wall. I have a few new pictures to put up once I get frames. You may recognize the quilts from the Casco Bay Room. I love these! Such a yummy blue.

New sink

The above is one of the new sinks we added. All of the bathrooms got new sink hardware.

We are still working on the Parlor Room. Wallpaper is stripped and the room is painted but we're getting new chairs this weekend and adding wainscotting. That will be a couple more weeks. In mid-February we'll start the work in the Winthrop Fogg room. The last one!

We hope you enjoy the changes we're making! Come on up and see us sometime!

In case you were wondering...when we do these reno's and remove older towels and bedding like sheets, blankets, quilts and the mattresses, we don't just throw them out. We take all of the items in good condition to a homeless shelter/halfway house. They use the linens & bedding in the shelter and provide the folks getting back on their feet with items for their new apartments. Any 'hardware' we get rid of like wall sconces, doorknobs, cabinetry all goes to the ReStore in Bath.

One year Rock took all the blankets we were replacing to the shelter. One of the guys who helped him unload looked in the bags and said to Rock, 'Thanks! This means I get my own blanket now. They didn't have enough last night.' Holy cow. We hear something like that and we just have to step back and think how lucky we are to not have to worry like that everyday.

You can donate in your area as well. If there are no people shelters, animal shelters will also take old towels and blankets. I know my mom makes quilts out of every possible odds and ends bits of fabric that get donated and those are given out to people on the streets in Poughkeepsie, NY.
